Perks

Perks are temporary advantages you earn during a round. They are one of the main ways your tower grows stronger as a run progresses, offering bonuses to damage, health, coins, game speed, and more. Some perks come with trade-offs, while others can unlock entirely new ultimate weapons mid-run.

Description

Perks are advantages earned during a round. They provide bonuses that last for the rest of that run and are lost when the round ends.

Unlocking Perks

Before you can earn perks, you need to unlock them through the lab system. The first step is completing the Unlock Perks lab, which becomes available in Milestones at tier 2 wave 150. Once that lab is finished, perks will start appearing during your rounds.

Waves Required

Your first perk becomes available at wave 200. The wave requirement increases as you pick more perks: after selecting 20 perks the base rises to 250, after 30 perks it goes to 300, and after 40 perks it reaches 350.

You can lower the base requirement by upgrading the Waves Required lab and by picking the Perk Wave Requirement perk during a run. The formula for calculating the first perk at each base wave count is:

Waves Required = (Base Waves Required - Waves Required lab) × (1 - (Perk Wave Required Perk × (1 + Standard Perk Bonus / 100)))

If the result is a decimal, round down. You can then multiply that rounded number by the number of perks to find later thresholds. For example, with 8% Standard Perk Bonus and 3 PWR lab levels giving 64.8% reduction: (200 - 3) × (1 - 0.648) = 69.344, which rounds down to 69 waves required.

Perk Choice

When a perk is offered, you initially choose between 2 randomly generated options. The Perk Option Quantity lab can raise this to a maximum of 4 choices. It is possible for every option in a set to be a trade-off perk, even when other perk types are still available.

The First Perk Choice lab lets you guarantee a specific standard perk appears as the top option in your first set of choices each round. When Auto Pick Perk is active, it always selects the top option from the list, which means it will pick your First Perk Choice if one is set.

Standard Perk Math

Most standard perks can be picked multiple times in a single round. The game uses two different formulas depending on whether the perk is additive or multiplicative.

For additive perks (such as Def % and Perk Wave Required): Total Bonus = Base Value × Quantity × (1 + Standard Perk Bonus)

For multiplicative perks (such as Coin Bonus, Health, and Damage): Total Bonus = (1 + Base Value × Quantity) × (1 + Standard Perk Bonus)

List of Perks

There are three categories of perks. Standard perks have a 65% chance of appearing, ultimate weapon perks have a 20% chance, and trade-off perks have a 15% chance.

Standard Perks

Standard perks are the most common type. The Bounce Shot perk will not appear unless you have already unlocked Bounce Shot. The strength of standard perks can be increased through the Standard Perk Bonus lab.

When the Standard Perk Bonus lab is maxed, the Game Speed perk increases to 1.25, bringing the maximum game speed to 6.25. The game displays this as 6.3 because game speed visually rounds to the tenths place.

Ultimate Weapon Perks

Ultimate weapon perks only appear if you have the corresponding ultimate weapon unlocked. If you unlock an ultimate weapon mid-run through the random ultimate weapon perk, its related perks become available for the rest of that run.

The Golden Tower Bonus perk does not apply to the GT bonus submodule effect.

Random ultimate weapon stats

When you pick the random ultimate weapon perk, the game selects one ultimate weapon you do not currently own and gives you a semi-upgraded version for the rest of the run. Unlocking a weapon this way does not let you research labs for that weapon. For example, getting Poison Swamp from this perk will not let you research Swamp Stun or Swamp Radius.

Module sub-stats that apply to the chosen weapon will still affect it. For instance, a +damage multiplier ILM sub-stat will increase the weapon's multiplier by the listed amount. Once you own every ultimate weapon, this perk is removed from the perk pool.
