UW Tier List: Best Ultimate Weapons in The Tower (2026)

Last verified 2026-08-08 · 5 data tables

Nine Ultimate Weapons, and every new pick costs more stones than the last — so the order you unlock and upgrade them shapes your whole account. This tier list is different from most: alongside the community pick order, it shows where a real Legend-league account actually put 53,547 stones, and what 50 logged long runs (waves 3,188–6,523) say about which weapons actually deal the damage and earn the coins. Every number on this page comes from verified cost tables, a decoded save file, or in-game battle reports — nothing is estimated.

The tier list at a glance

Tiers here mean pick-and-invest priority for a normal farming-focused account, not raw power in a vacuum. Economy weapons top the list because coins buy everything else: workshop levels, lab speed, and ultimately the damage weapons themselves. This matches the community pick order (see the linked Which UW Do I Select guide) and, as the data sections below show, it is exactly how the coin ledger of real runs behaves.

Pick-and-invest priority for a farming-focused account
TierUltimate WeaponRoleVerdict
SGolden TowerEconomyFirst pick, no contest. Unlocking it already boosts cash and coins, and its Golden Combo ability becomes your single biggest coin source.
SBlack HoleEconomy + controlFeels weak on unlock, becomes an economy and protector-killing pillar once its labs come in. Sync it with Golden Tower; the bonuses stack multiplicatively.
ADeath WaveEconomy + healthStrong at nearly every stage since its rework: coin bonus and health multiplier apply on hit, so it stays useful long after it stops killing.
ASpotlightDamage + coinsA 3x coin bonus with constant uptime plus a serious damage multiplier through the mid game.
AChrono FieldCrowd controlThe king of crowd control. After its first activation it can stay up permanently. Second-biggest stone investment on my account for a reason.
BChain LightningDamageCheap to make strong; carries mid-game damage. On my CL-focused build it deals over half of all damage in logged runs.
CInner Land MinesUtility (stun)A cheap, wide stun that keeps bosses and elites off you. 625 stones on my account bought a real effect. Shines in a damage meta, less in today's hybrid meta.
CPoison SwampDamage (situational)Reworked in v26; needs a developed Chrono Field to keep enemies in the swamp. Before that point it underperforms almost everything.
CSmart MissilesDamage (late)The classic guides call it the late-game damage ceiling, but the investment needed before it outperforms Chain Lightning is enormous, and in the current hybrid meta that payoff sits at the very end of the road. Last project on this list, and my account agrees: 0 stones.

Unlock order and what each slot costs

Unlock costs are per slot, not per weapon: your first Ultimate Weapon costs 5 stones no matter which one you take, the ninth costs 3,000. All nine slots together cost exactly 9,705 stones. That escalation is why pick order matters so much: an early slot wasted on Poison Swamp costs you the same 5 stones, but the coins you didn't earn compound for months.

My recommended order: Golden Tower, Black Hole, Death Wave, Spotlight, Chrono Field, Chain Lightning, Inner Land Mines, Poison Swamp, and Smart Missiles last. The classic community order takes Smart Missiles 7th, ahead of the two situational picks; I disagree for the reasons in the tier table: the stone investment it demands before it beats Chain Lightning is the largest commitment on this list, and in the current hybrid meta that project belongs at the very end. One refinement stands either way: if you can keep a 3x lab boost running continuously, take Chain Lightning 5th and push Chrono Field to 6th or 7th, because the boost cuts Chrono Field's long lab times down to size. Each UW+ ability (Smite, Golden Combo, Kill Wall …) additionally costs a flat 975 stones to unlock in-game.

Where a real Legend account put 53,547 stones

This is the actual stone allocation of my Legend-league account, decoded straight from the save file: 9,705 stones on the nine unlock slots and 43,842 in upgrades. Two things stand out. First, the two biggest investments are an economy weapon and a crowd-control weapon, not damage: Golden Tower and Chrono Field together hold more stones than everything else combined. Second, Smart Missiles and Poison Swamp sit at zero upgrade stones even on a Legend account — they are genuinely late-game projects, which is worth remembering when a tier list tells you to unlock them last.

What 50 logged runs say about damage

Averaged over the last 50 long farming runs on this account (waves 3,188 to 6,523, from 374 logged battle reports), the damage ledger looks like this. Context matters when reading it: this is a Chain-Lightning-focused hybrid build, and Smart Missiles / Poison Swamp / Inner Land Mines sit at or near zero upgrade stones — their shares are low because they are uninvested, not because they are weak. What the table really shows is that a B-tier damage weapon with only 3,416 stones in it can carry more than half of an account's total damage, which is exactly the cost-efficiency argument for taking Chain Lightning before Smart Missiles.

Chain Lightning53.5%
Orbs32.7%
Guardian (electrons)9.0%
Black Hole4.2%

What the runs say about coins

The same 50 runs, coin side. The game reports each bonus line relative to total coins earned, and because the multipliers stack with each other the lines overlap — they deliberately do not sum to 100%. Read them as "how big is this lever": Golden Combo alone is worth almost half of everything earned, and the four economy UW lines (Golden Combo, Golden Tower, Black Hole, Death Wave) each out-earn the biggest damage weapon's coin line. This is the empirical version of the tier list above — the economy weapons literally pay for the rest of the account.

When this ranking changes

Three progression points bend the list. Early game (first three slots): nothing changes — Golden Tower, Black Hole and Death Wave are the consensus opening in that order, and the coin data above shows why. Mid game: if you can keep a 3x lab boost running continuously, swap Chain Lightning ahead of Chrono Field (5th instead of 6th); the boost shrinks Chrono Field's brutal lab times, which is its main cost. Late game: Poison Swamp starts performing once a developed Chrono Field (ideally with CF+ levels) keeps enemies inside it, and Inner Land Mines' stun gets more valuable the more concentrated your damage becomes. Smart Missiles stay the final project: fully invested they can become a dominant damage source, but that point sits behind the largest stone commitment on this list — start it only when everything else on your account is where you want it.

FAQ

**What is the best Ultimate Weapon in The Tower?** Golden Tower. Unlocking it alone boosts cash and coins, and in 50 logged long runs its Golden Combo ability averaged 46.2% of all coins earned — the single biggest lever in the game.

**What order should I unlock Ultimate Weapons in?** Golden Tower → Black Hole → Death Wave → Spotlight → Chrono Field → Chain Lightning → Inner Land Mines → Poison Swamp → Smart Missiles. If you can run a 3x lab boost continuously, take Chain Lightning 5th and Chrono Field 6th or 7th.

**How many stones does it cost to unlock all Ultimate Weapons?** Exactly 9,705 stones for the nine slots (5, 50, 150, 300, 800, 1,250, 1,750, 2,400 and 3,000). Upgrading them costs far more — this account has 43,842 stones in upgrades on top.

**Are damage Ultimate Weapons worth it?** Eventually, yes — but the run data is blunt about priorities: economy UW coin lines (Golden Combo 46.2%, Golden Tower 17.5%, Black Hole 16.4%) dwarf everything else, and those coins buy your damage later. Chain Lightning is the cost-efficient damage pick: 3,416 stones invested, over half of all run damage delivered.

**Is Smart Missiles good in The Tower?** Only at the very end of the road. Heavily invested it can become a dominant damage source, but the stone cost of reaching the point where it outperforms Chain Lightning is the largest commitment on this list — which is why it sits last here, and why this Legend account still has 0 stones in it.
